ALEX SAUER AND OPACK EARN WEEKLY HONORS

Sep 30, 2014

The Capitals stormed through Texas last weekend, taking all three games from the Jr Brahmas and leaping to first place in the South. Though it was a full team effort, forwards Alex Sauer and Trey Opack were recognized for their roles in the series and honored with both the South Star of the Week and the 2nd Star of the Week respectively.

From NA3HL.com – The Topeka Capitals find themselves in 1st place in the South Division thanks to a three-game road sweep of the Texas Jr. Brahmas this past weekend. Tied for the team scoring lead is 19-year-old forward Alex Sauer, who had a five-point weekend in the three wins. The native of Atlanta, GA, didn’t score, but played well in a 2-1 win on Friday. On Saturday, Sauer (5’10/170) had an assist in a 6-2 win. Sauer’s best game came on Sunday when he had a goal and three assists in a 4-3 win against the Jr. Brahmas. “Alex’s game is evolving everyday and that should open up some opportunities for him at the next level. Everyone stepped up this weekend.  Winning three games on the road during a weekend is never an easy thing to do in this league, so we are going to try and build off it,” said Topeka head coach Anthony Bohn.

The second star of the week was the Capitals first-year forward Trey Opack. Off to a strong start this season with two assists already on his stat sheet, Opack stepped up big in game two of the Texas series, adding another assist and netting the game winning goal in the 6-2 victory. In the final game of the series, his first period assist and third period goal helped propel the Capitals into overtime.

The Capitals take to the road again this weekend to play the Dallas Jr Stars for two games (Fri. and Sat. at 7:30pm) and then the Texas Jr Brahmas for one game (Sun. at 2:15pm). The team returns to Landon Arena next weekend for a Saturday/Sunday series against the Twin City Steel. Tickets for these games are available and are only $5 and parking is free.
