CAPS SALVAGE GAME THREE AGAINST DUCKS

Oct 19, 2014

After a rough stretch that saw Topeka drop four straight at home, the Capitals broke out of their funk in a big way Saturday night with a 3-0 shutout win over the Point Mallard Ducks.

Last Thursday night's game looked to be one in which the Capitals had found their footing again. Tied at one heading into the third, Steve MacIver (assisted by Alex Sauer and Tre Opack at 4:11) took advantage of a Duck penalty to score the potential go-ahead goal for a 2-1 lead. But Point Mallard would fire in two unanswered netters to finish the period, dropping the Caps for their third straight loss. The goal by MacIver would be Topeka's last until Saturday night as they were shutout 4-0 by the Ducks on Friday night.

In the final game of the series, Topeka stepped up early on Alex Sauer's eventual game winning goal at 1:58 of the first (assisted by Hank Roers). Roers would add a goal of his own (assisted by Kyle Rimbach at 9:26) in the second period along with Tre Kautzman's third goal of the season (assisted by Opack at 11:03) to set the final score at 3-0. In net, Brett Malkmus played inspired, denying all 31 shots on goal and holding the Ducks 0-9 on the power play.

The South leading Capitals take a much needed week off before heading to Dallas for a Halloween weekend matchup with the Junior Stars. The team returns to Landon Arena on November 22nd and 23rd to face St. Louis. Tickets for those games are only $5 and parking is free.
