Caps Take 2 Of 3 In Dallas

The train just keeps rolling for the Caps in their first ever season. Faced with a three-game series against division foe Dallas, Topeka took games one and three to increase their lead in the South to 25 points and inch closer towards clinching the top spot in the division playoffs.

Friday night, it looked like Dallas was in control early. Down 2-0 after the first five minutes, Connor Nichols cut the lead in half to make it a more manageable 2-1 deficit heading into the second. Luke Thom and Nick Rizzo would score a goal each in the middle frame to put the Caps ahead to stay and Brandon Hawkins would finish the Stars off with a power play goal in the third, lifting the Topeka over Dallas 4-2 in the opener.

On Saturday, the Stars rebounded by scoring once in each of the first two periods. Topeka countered with two goals in the second from Kole Hudson and Hardijis Kupaks to tie the game. In the third, Dallas took the lead at 12:40 and salted away the victory with an empty netter with one second left in regulation to win 4-2.

Sunday morning, the gloves came off. Connor Nichols scored in the first and third and Joe Stoneburner had three assists in the series-clinching Topeka victory. A 3-1 first period lead shrank to 4-3 in the second, but goals by Kole Hudson and Nichols in the final frame sealed the deal for Topeka whose dominance of Dallas this season continues.
