Stars Knocked Out By Topeka 6-3

A tie game in the first blossomed into a 6-3 win for the Capitals in game one of a three game set in Topeka Friday afternoon.

The Junior Stars jumped on the board early though with an unassisted netter by Matt Zaragoza at 6:37 of the first. Topeka retaliated with the next two scores on the backs of Dante Juris and Hardijis Kupaks to take a 2-1 lead. It wouldn't last long, however, as Cam Choate knotted things up in the period's final minute.

The second period was all Capitals. Juris struck again with his second goal of the game to push Topeka ahead. Tommy Malkmus rang up a power play goal and Seth Kamrass rounded out the period with a goal at 12:56 making it 5-2 Caps after two.

Colin South closed the gap to 5-3 at 12:56 in the third but it would not be enough. Alex Sauer punched in a power play goal at 18:35 assisted by Georgy Ostapchuk who lead the team with three assists on the night.

The Capitals and Junior Stars clash again tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. Tickets to all Capitals games are only five dollars for general admission and parking is free. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit www.topekacapitals.com.
