During the second period, Klintworth opened the scoring for Atlanta with a goal at 2:09 with a helper from fellow Capitals forward Medure. Sleeper netted a goal at 6:50 with an assist from Steh. Kendall finally put the Ducks on the board with a goal at 11:37.
In the third, Chun deposited a goal at 1:32 with a helper from defenseman Goodman. Kelly scored what turned out to be the game winning goal at 17:18 with assists from his teammates Green and Herbel. Trombly quickly followed with a goal at 17:59 with helpers from Evans and Horton.
